BEACHWOOD RESIDENT SINCE 2013

I'm married with two children aged 10 and 14.  My son is a rising 9th grader and attended Beachwood Schools since kindergarten. My daughter is a rising 5th grader and started at Fairmount.  We moved to Beachwood because of the excellent school district.

EDUCATION AND CAREER

I received my Bachelors Degree from the University of Chicago and PhD in Genetics from Case Western Reserve University. I also have a Master of Business Administration from Weatherhead School of Management.  I am currently the Director for the Clinical Trials Unit at UH Seidman Cancer Center.  I have over 20 years of cancer research experience, providing support and resources to investigators to ensure efficient and compliant conduct of human subject research to allow our patients access to innovative treatment.

SCHOOL BOARD EXPERIENCE

I was appointed in January 2022 to fill a vacancy on the board.  It has been a busy 18 months from hiring principals and a treasurer to engaging our community regarding the elementary facilities project and helping the approval of a bond levy.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER?

School board members are elected by the residents to represent the community's values, views and desires for the district.  School board members do not manage the day to day operations of a school district.  The board works closely with the superintendent to determine the district's vision and goals. The board advises, makes strategic decisions and establishes policies with the superintendent to accomplish the district goals.

WHY AM I RUNNING FOR SCHOOL BOARD?

I would like to continue to engage with the community, families, student, staff and administration to support and improve our schools, educational programs and its effectiveness to ensure our student receive the best education, experience and opportunities possible during their critical formative years.

Intercultural awareness is one of the district goals and I believe as a member of the Asian American community, I can bring an underrepresented point of view within the community.
